SEARCH'97 from Verity (Sunnyvale, CA) is a suite of search tools that combine a powerful search engine with intelligent search components to make performing queries easier and more accurate. The tools are customizable, so as to address the needs of individuals and organizations. The suite includes SEARCH'97 Personal, SEARCH'97 Information Server, and SEARCH'97 Agent Server.
SEARCH'97 Personal gives a personalized twist to your searches: A Personal Indexer is optimized for retrieving information stored on your hard drive or CD-ROM; access is from within your own desktop look and feel; a personal index of all the Web pages you visit is created; and you can launch personal intelligent agents that monitor information sources you're interested in and bring you pertinent information as it materializes. In browsing the documents, you can take advantage of visualization techniques such as clustering, whereby documents are grouped according to content, and summarization, which gives a brief description of the content. Documents are ranked according to your own personal profile, and the integration of Inso's Quick View Plus plug-in allows retrieved documents from over 200 file formats to be viewed in their native look without launching the application. Java and JavaScript are also brought into play to enhance real-time responsiveness, and support for ActiveX is in the works.<>
