Web Tools

It isn't often that the editors around the office push and shove to get a look at the latest "cool tool" on the screen. But that's just what happened recently at Web Techniques as they were wowed by WebHub, an architecture and collection of more than 30 components that allows Borland Delphi Developers to create dynamic, database-driven Web sites. At the heart of the architecture is Hub, a process controller that can monitor multiple instances of a given module, anonymously track user actions and save page states (without using cookies), and much more.

Components cover four general areas: CGI, HTML, Web action, and databases. CGI components allow you to do basic CGI scripting with a twist. Unlike standard CGIs, which close after execution, WebHub runs continuously so there's no penalty for invoking a CGI multiple times. HTML components allow you to call any HTML using names, and include the ability to run macros. Web-action components are classes that can call components from macros. Databases are a subclass of the Web-action class that provide access to any of the databases supported by Delphi.

Because the components run directly in the Borland development environment, you can run and debug CGI applications using Borland's standard debugger.
