Designing with QuarkImmedia
By R. Shamms Mortier
QuarkXPress has a worldwide reputation as the king of the mountain when it comes to page design. So when Quark announced a professional extension for QuarkXPress that addresses multimedia and Internet publishing, designers were understandably excited. Building on the reputation, design power, and precision of QuarkXPress,
QuarkImmedia lets you create high-end multimedia on your desktop that can be targeted to the Internet, intranets, CD-ROM, and disk, without knowledge of scripting or programming languages. Immedia's usefulness is directly proportional to your knowledge and experience with QuarkXPress, which must be in your system for QuarkImmedia to function. Whether you are adapting existing print content for the screen or developing original multimedia titles from scratch, QuarkImmedia makes it easy to incorporate interactivity and dynamic media, including sound, video, and animation, into your projects.
QuarkImmedia consists of the QuarkImmedia Design Tool and the QuarkImmedia Viewer. The QuarkImmedia Design Tool works in conjunction with QuarkXPress to provide a multimedia-authoring environment for page designers. The QuarkImmedia Viewer is a royalty-free application that lets users interact with projects created with the QuarkImmedia Design Tool. It also allows users to browse and interact with QuarkImmedia projects on the Internet. I'll examine both in this article.
