Java-Based Searching

On the heels of its NetResults product, Innotech began shipping NetResults Lite 1.0 earlier this year. Version 1.2 should be available by the time this reaches print. NetResults is nothing less than a search engine written in Java that supports cascading searches, provides advanced indexing features, and includes complete administration tools. Basically, search requests and result sets are sent and received through Java applets. Applets communicate with the server on their own ports. Several client-side applets are included with the package and support features like relevance ranking, graphical representation, document-location display, and document hot links. An Applet Developer's Kit allows you to write applets and customize the application.

NetResults can index HTML, text, and PostScript files, include up to 500 documents per index, and customize your "stop word" list. The search engine supports multiple-word search requests and Boolean logic. The engine server runs one instance per topic with multiple threads, which is configurable by the administrator.
