Designing Graphics with DeBabelizer Pro
By R. Shamms Mortier
Mac designers and developers have maintained a distinct advantage over Windows folks when it comes to tools for translating 2D file formats, batch processing, applying incremental effects, and performing other image manipulations. Equilibrium's DeBabelizer (See "DeBabelizer for the Mac") has long been the Mac user's tool of choice for such tasks, and now it has been completely retooled and released as DeBabelizer Pro for Windows.
Those who own the Mac version of DeBabelizer and also run Windows will have to adjust to a new interface; see
Figure 1. Most of the Mac features are included in DeBabelizer Pro for Windows, but the look is very different. Additional functions like drag-and-drop have been added to the new Windows version. This article examines DeBabelizer Pro for Windows from top to bottom.
DeBabelizer Pro Features
DeBabelizer's most promoted feature is its ability to translate 2D file formats. DeBabelizer accommodates the most useful image-file formats for Windows users, including BMP, BOB, CUT, EPSF, FITS, GIF, ICO, IFF, IMJ, JPG, MAC, ISP, NEO, PIX, PCX, PICT, PLN, PNG, PSD, PXR, QDV, RAS, RGB, RLE, SCN, SGI, TDIM/GRAF, TGA, TIF, TIM, XWD, and YUV. DeBabelizer Pro also loads the DeBabelizer Pro, GL, IMG, NEO/PLN, and WPG formats.
DeBabelizer's Properties dialog box presents all of the details about your selected image or movie file.
