Mojo for Database Developers
By Joe Hughes
With tools such as Microsoft's Visual J++, Symantec's Visual Cafe Pro, and Borland's upcoming JBuilder upping the ante, other visual-development environments must pile on the features to compete. This was certainly the case with
Mojo 2.0 Enterprise Edition, which contains many extensions for the database-application developer. Possibly the most important addition is XDB Systems' JDBC drivers and controls. In this article, I'll examine the Enterprise Edition of Mojo 2.0. I'll also take a sneak peek at the upcoming Super Mojo, which should be available by the time this reaches print.
What's in the Box
Mojo Enterprise 2.0 retails for $895 and is available directly from Penumbra Software, in Egghead Software stores, and from Programmer's Paradise, PC WareHouse, and other catalogs. Currently, Mojo runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51.
In the box are the installation CD-ROM, a Getting Started manual (with tutorial) and a 325-page user manual. You get the complete Sun Java Development Kit (JDK) on the CD, the Mojo development environment, and the following additional components:
- Blinking text, Calendar, Clock, Gauge, LED Clock, Marquee, and Ticker Tape.
- Microline Grid, ProgressBar, Tabs, and Tree.
- KL Group's JClass JGrid.
- The entire XDB JetConnect 2.0 package, including class packages for Java to ODBC and JDBC to ODBC; the JetPort network daemon, which enables Java applets to access a database on a remote system such as a host Web server; and JetControls such as JetTableBox, JetList, and JetImageField.
