BaBushka Beans
If you've been to Russia, you may be familiar with those wonderful dolls, the Babushkas-open one and you are faced with another, and so on and so on. Well, Sun has a Babushka of its own with the JavaBeans Migration Assistant for ActiveX. Jointly developed with IBM's Taligent division, the Migration Assistant converts a Windows-based ActiveX control into a 100% pure JavaBean by analyzing the interfaces of your existing controls and generating skeletal beans. All you do is add internal logic.
The Migration Assistant is packaged in the WebRunner Toolkit, from Taligent. The toolkit consists of WebRunner Bean Tools, Servlet Tools, and Beans. The Bean Tools are a wizard, a tester, the migration tool, and a class library designed to allow developers to create scalable, maintainable JavaBeans. Servlet Tools is a framework for creating server-side applications and servlets. Webrunner Beans is a set of JavaBeans for application development, including network beans for access to Internet file transfer, mail and news protocols, user-interface Beans, including a multicolumn list-box bean, progress-bar bean, charting beans, and gauge beans for indicators, dials, and thermometers.
The Toolkit is a "booster pack" for IBM's VisualAge for Java, which comes in two packages: Professional, with editor, debugger, browser, and visual-composition editor, and Enterprise, designed to connect Java clients to existing server data, transactions, and applications.
