As Simple as Possible

Dear Editors,

Loved your article on simplifying Web design in the April 1999 issue. Too bad the person who designed the layout for the sidebar, "Design Constraints for Simplicity and Compatibility," didn't. That silver ink reflects the light and makes it really tough to read. I guess style always wins.

Or Possibly Not

Since the objective of a publication, in print or on a Web site, is to get attention, then facilitate communication between author and reader, I was frankly surprised reading the April 1999 issue of Web Techniques.

Your use of a burnt sienna background and 8-point black type for "Online" makes reading difficult. The three-quarter page sidebar on "Design Constraints for Simplicity and Compatibility" had type not only set far too wide for the weight and size of the font, but printed in silver ink to boot.
