From the HotMetal Mold Comes XmetaL

At what temperature does HoTMetaL become XMetaL? With the market heating up in anticipation of new XML products, SoftQuad Software is now shipping XMetaL 1.0-an XML authoring tool with a look and feel based on its popular HoTMetaL authoring tool for HTML.

Intended for authors and content contributors, XMetaL provides a WYSIWYG editor for producing standards-based XML documents. Like HoTMetaL, the interface can be customized to represent a word processor or other application. Users of both packages will also be familiar with the three views-Normal Mode, Tags-On, and Plain-Text-which allow basic and advanced editing.

XMetaL does offer a number of extended features beyond HoTMetaL, namely the ability to validate XML and the option to edit in SGML mode. You can even customize the interface according to the currently loaded DTD.

The software runs on Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0
