Not long ago, I bought a Palm VII. I really love this little device, because not only does it have all the features of a standard PDA, it also connects to the Web in a completely wireless way. The technology is built right inno need for the additional modem that previous Palm devices and other PDAs have required.
Along with the built-in wireless capabilities, another interesting Palm VII feature is the Web Clipping Service. A Web Clipping is a Web application that's specialized for Palm devices. To view a Web Clipping, you need an enabled device such as the Palm VII (stand-alone) or the Palm V with an OmniSky modem. (For more information on products mentioned, see "
Online".) Web Clipping content includes stock quotes, sports scores, news headlines, IMAP, POP, Hotmail, and Yahoo emailthere's even personal messaging available. It's pretty cool stuff for the wireless fan.
Creating a Web Clipping is as easy as HTML 3.2, which, in fact, is what you'll use to mark up Web Clipping Applications. Combine a little HTML knowledge with a few tools from Palm, and you'll be making your own Web Clipping in no time.
What You Need
To develop a Web Clipping, you need a few tools. Begin with a text editor (Notepad or SimpleText will do) and the Web Clipping Application Builder, a free tool available for download from Palm in Mac and PC platforms. Make sure you have a Palm Image Checker if you want to work with images.
