Reporting for the Enterprise
By John Pearson
Crystal Enterprise is handy if your enterprise has
databases, OLAP, ERP, CRM, and SAP, which means you
have datalots of it. To make sense of it, you must
create reports and distribute them to everyone, from
potential customers
to the chairman of the board. That data also needs to
be available 24/7 on the Web and instantly updated
when any information changes. Crystal Decisions
provides an enterprise reporting solution that helps
developers manage this process.
Crystal Enterprise, part of Crystal Decisions'
solution, includes tools that let you distribute your
reports across an intranet or the Internet, or even
run them on the company server. At the heart of
Crystal Enterprise lies Crystal Reports. Version 8.5
of this industry mainstay has been revamped with new
Web reporting features. The Report Publishing Wizard
lets you publish reports instantly on the Web. You can
now export your reports to XML, or even import XML
data. Enterprise provides DHTML, ActiveX, and Java
viewers for your Web-enabled reports that you can
include in your Web pages using JavaScript.
