I have a confession to make: I actually think building Web sites is a pain.
Take all the worst aspects of doing page layout, throw in a language that was originally designed for displaying physics abstracts, spend an inordinate amount of time writing code for the browsers that support it, spend more time handling cases where the browser doesn't support the code, then figure out that the person writing the code and designing the graphics should be two different peopleand you begin to understand why Web developers often seem resigned to handling Sisyphus-like tasks.
I've grown wary of WYSIWYG Web editors for precisely that reason. In theory, they offer drag-and-drop simplicity, turning Web page creation into something analogous to laying out a newspaper. However, a newspaper doesn't support links, rollover highlights, or validation code. Put another way, a Web site can be vastly more complex than the densest front page of the New York Times, and most WYSIWYG editors get bogged down in those details.
So, when I was approached to write a review of NetObjects Fusion 5.0, I was prepared for my normal disappointmentinstead, I was pleasantly surprised.
NetObjects Fusion ships with an extensive, well-written paper manual that provides you with a good jump-start into the product, covers all the features in great detail, and offers several useful tips for getting the most out of the product.
